Mode Of Action

Carbamolylmethyl benzoic acid derivatives such as repaglinide act by stimulating the release of insulin from pancreas by closing ATP-dependent potassium channels in the membrane of the beta cells. This activity depolarizes the beta cells opening the calcium channels that leads to calcium influx and secretion of insulin

Drug Indication Diabetic type 2. It used as monotherapy or in combination with metformin
Precautions May cause resumption of ovulation in pre-menopausal anovulatory patients
Contra-Indications Breastfeeding; type 1 diabetes; diabetes keto-acidosis; hepatic disorders.
Side Effects Peripheral oedema; URTI; back pain; headache; anaemia.
Dosage For patients previously untreated with a hypoglycaemic agent(s) and whose HbA1c is less than or equal to 8%: Initially 0.5mg orally (max. 16mg daily). For patients previously treated with a hypoglycaemic agent and whose HbA1c is greater than or equal to 8%: initially 1-2 mg (max. 16mg daily). It is taken 15-30 min before meal
